The novel takes the next step: could a much larger hidden marine system preserve complex lineages across geological time? There is no evidence that such an ecosystem exists—or that it could sustain giant vertebrates. That is the speculative hinge.
03 / Cold survival
Some ectothermic vertebrates can survive substantial internal ice formation for days or months using cryoprotective chemistry. That real biology inspired the premise. It does not demonstrate that a giant fish or marine reptile could freeze solid for millions of years and revive. On this site, that leap is always treated as fiction.
